I've been watching Discovery on Friday nights, again.

Dr. Zawi Hawass has like the coolest job ever.

Secretary-General of Egypt's Supreme Council of Antiquities, dude.

That's even better than
Wafaa El-Sediq, and she gets to be the Curator of the entire Egyptian Museum in Cairo.

Well, okay, that's pretty damned cool, too. So I think her position is like the other coolest job ever.

And, as an aside, this is what I'll be doing at noon on my birthday this year.

Alberto-Culver is the parent company of Nexxus, St. Ives, Alberto V05, etc. And until late last year, they were also the parent company of both Sally Beauty Supply and Victory Beauty (licensed professionals-only store).

Because A-C decided that as a company they were spreading their focus too widely, they recently sold all of their retail stores (Sally & Victory) to the Regis Corporation.

(The Regis Corporation is like the L'Oreal or Estee Lauder of the hair industry. They have over 30 different salon chains, and over eleven thousand salons worldwide. You might recognize some of their subsidiaries: City Looks, Jean Louis David, Cost Cutters, Regis, Master Cuts, Trade Secret, Supercuts, BoRics, Smart Style, plus a zillion others.)

(Estee Lauder brings you: Aramis, Aveda, Bobbi Brown, Bumble & bumble, Clinique, Donna Karan, Estee Lauder, Jo Malone, kate spade beauty, La Mer, Origins, Prescriptives, Stila and Tommy Hilfiger. Etc.)

(L'Oreal brings you the beauty of: L'Oreal Paris, Matrix, Redken, L'Oreal Professional , Artec, Garnier, Maybelline NY, Softsheen-Carson, Lancome, Biotherm, Helena Rubenstein, Georgio Armani, Ralph Lauren, Cacharel, Kiehl's, Shu Umera, CCB Paris, Vichy, Inneov, La Roche-Posay, Kerastase, Mizani, Skinceuticals, Viktor & Rolf. And also, Nestle.)

After Alberto-Culver divested themselves of the baggage associated with retail stores, they found themselves with 1 Pro line, and numerous Mass Market products.

Which both need different marketing, distribution and whatnot.

Because they wanted to turn their attentions solely to production and marketing of their Mass Market brands, they opted to convert Nexxus over to the Mass Market.

Which means that Nexxus is now being sold on the other side of my store, and also is now completely available for purchase at pretty much anywhere, Walgreens, Wal-Mart, your local Jewel or Hy-Vee, wherever.

And it should sell very well because it is a well established, long standing, and greatly recognized by name alone. Unfortunately, they did away with a lot of their products in the process. Rest assured though, Humectress still exists.

So, basically, A-C sold their retail stores to Regis, then wanted to spend all their time on their commercial product lines like St Ives and Tres Semme, and decided to convert Nexxus over to a mass market brand to make it easier to manufacture, distribute, and advertise.

The End.
